The History of Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage (IHM) comes originally from India and dates back over 5000 years. From its beginnings as a grooming technique, it has developed in the West to be a popular complementary therapy:
IHM was brought from India to Britain in 1973 by Narendra Mehta, who named this treatment “Indian Champissage” from the Indian word “Champi” meaning “head massage”.
In the West, IHM has evolved as part of a stress management programme and can include the use of pleasant smelling oils massaged into the neck and shoulders, as well as the scalp and face in accordance to the clients’ wishes.

Why Indian Head Massage?

One of the main reasons to choose IHM over other types of massage is that it can be performed anywhere as it can be applied through the clothes, and thus it is a perfect choice for therapy on the go, where it can be fitted around a busy work/home schedule.
Dani’s Hands offers Reiki and massage in the comfort of your home or office space, at your convenience. My working hours vary in dependence to my client’s needs.
IHM is a holistic and therapeutic massage. Key client groups are sufferers of insomnia, stress, tiredness, sinusitis, headaches and migraines as well as neck and shoulders pain.

Indian Head massage is very beneficial to hair growth as it improves hair and scalp conditions

The majority of people only worry about their hair’s health when it starts to look dry or thinning. When the body is subjected to ill health or stress, the hair is often affected and can become dry. Regular massage and the use of oils promote healthy hair as it stimulates the flow of blood to the hair follicles thus improving the supply of nutrients needed for healthy growth.
